Our last day in Hawaii was actually pretty full because our flight didn’t take off until 8pm. I guess that’s one of the small benefits of having a red-eye flight schedule. We packed all of our stuff up the night before, so in the morning just had to go get the car and pile everything in.
Our first stop was to drive to the free botanical garden because Owen had seen some amazing videos on TikTok and we didn’t want to miss seeing it. It was a gorgeous drive through some amazing foliage, but the best part was the backdrop of these huge mountains dripping in green with deep pillars or canyons sort of texturing the base of them. We got out and hiked on every trail we could, snapped a bunch of photos, and just soaked it all in.
Once we finished with the botanical garden, we drove along the coast back to the Honolulu area, stopping at several of the beaches that we had seen on our 16-point tour the day before. The weather was so much nicer today – sunny and warm! The beaches were beautiful and even though we were both ready to get home, it was sad to leave.
I had no idea when we planned this how much I would enjoy my one-on-one time with Owen. It was incredible to just have days and days of talking, adventuring, eating, and making memories. I know the kids are grown now and his life is only going to get more and more busy — and that’s normal! I’ll forever be grateful that we got this trip!
